Emergency Dentist in Davidson, NC — Same Day, Real Help
Dental emergencies don’t wait for a convenient time. A broken tooth at dinner, a painful abscess on a Sunday morning, a knocked-out tooth at a weekend sports game — when something goes wrong in your mouth, the last thing you need is a recorded message and a callback three days from now.
At Anchored Family Dental in Davidson, Dr. Bailey Munson reserves time every single day for same-day emergency patients. Call us, tell us what’s happening, and we’ll get you in fast. No ER waiting rooms. No dismissive advice to take some ibuprofen and tough it out.
Is Your Situation a Dental Emergency?
- Knocked-out tooth — time is critical; see FAQ below for what to do immediately
- Severe or throbbing toothache not responding to over-the-counter pain relief
- Jaw, cheek, or gum swelling — especially with fever, which signals spreading infection
- Dental abscess — a painful bump on the gum, often with visible drainage
- Broken tooth with a sharp exposed edge cutting your cheek or tongue
- Uncontrolled oral bleeding that doesn’t stop with gentle pressure
- Lost crown on a tooth with significant temperature or air sensitivity
- Minor chip with no pain, just a rough edge
- Lost filling with mild sensitivity but no acute pain
- Partially loose crown still in place with no significant discomfort
Not sure? Call (704) 997-3164 and describe what you’re experiencing. That conversation takes two minutes and costs nothing.
What to Do Before You Get to Our Office
Knocked-out tooth: Handle only by the crown — never the root. Rinse gently with water, no scrubbing. Place it back in the socket if possible and hold it there. If not, store it in whole milk or your own saliva. Get to us within 30 minutes for the best reimplantation odds.
Severe tooth pain: Rinse with warm saltwater. Take ibuprofen (not aspirin if there is bleeding). Do not press aspirin directly against gum tissue — it causes chemical burns.
Broken tooth: Save any large fragments. Apply a cold compress outside your face. Cover sharp edges with dental wax from any pharmacy.
Jaw swelling with fever: If you can’t reach us immediately, go to an urgent care or emergency room. Spreading dental infections can become dangerous fast — don’t wait it out.
How We Treat Dental Emergencies
- Root canal therapy — removes infected pulp, stops the pain, saves the tooth
- Same-day dental bonding or crown — for broken or fractured teeth
- Gentle tooth extraction — when a tooth genuinely cannot be saved
- Abscess drainage and antibiotic prescription — stops infection spread
- Tooth reimplantation — for knocked-out teeth brought in quickly
- Temporary crown or filling — protects the tooth while a permanent restoration is prepared
Preventing the Next Emergency
Many dental emergencies grow from problems that were detectable earlier. Regular preventative care — exams, cleanings, and X-rays every six months — catches decay, failing restorations, and gum disease before they become acute. Ask us about our Wellness Plan if you’re currently skipping routine visits due to cost.
Serving Patients from Across Lake Norman
Emergency patients travel to us from Cornelius, Huntersville, Mooresville, and throughout the Davidson area. We are the same-day dental resource for this community.
FAQs About Emergency Dentistry
What counts as a dental emergency?
Any situation with severe pain, swelling, a knocked-out tooth, broken tooth with nerve exposure, or oral bleeding that won’t stop. When in doubt, call (704) 997-3164 or visit our contact page — we’ll help you assess over the phone.
Can I come as a new patient for a dental emergency?
Absolutely. You don’t need to be an existing patient. Call, describe your situation, and we’ll fit you into the same-day schedule. You can establish ongoing care afterward — no obligation.
What are the odds of saving a knocked-out tooth?
Significantly better when you act fast. Teeth reimplanted within 30 minutes have much higher success rates than those brought in after an hour. Keep the tooth moist, avoid touching the root, and get to us immediately.
Is a dental abscess dangerous if left untreated?
Yes. An untreated abscess is a bacterial infection that can spread to surrounding bone, tissue, and in serious cases, the neck and airway. Jaw swelling combined with fever and difficulty swallowing is a medical emergency — go to an ER if you cannot reach us.
Will insurance cover an emergency dental visit?
Most plans include coverage for emergency exams and diagnostics. Treatment coverage varies by plan. We check benefits upfront — contact us or bring your insurance card to your visit.
What if the emergency happens after hours?
Call our office and follow the after-hours instructions. Dr. Munson accommodates true emergencies outside regular hours when possible. For spreading infection, uncontrolled bleeding, or severe swelling with fever, go directly to an emergency room.
